Black & White & Read All Over

Booksmall"The thing about redemption... is that it takes place in the context of community. God is not just redeeming persons; He is gathering for himself a people. So community is both a means and an end. It's where we're going, and it's how we get there."

What if there was a book that helped us break up with individualism and take a communal approach to spiritual formation? It's here. The Kingdom of Couches, written communally by the authors of this blog, is in print. In the next few weeks, Musings will have sample text, comments, and a link to where you can purchase a copy.

We're not really into marketing ourselves... but a recent Campus Crusade conference speaker called it "the best book that's been written on this topic." Hmm... okay.

Will, I am on page 63 and I am loving the book so far. It may be because I have a relational connection to the community you speak of (through Bob), but I think it only has a little to do with that. You and all the other guys are pretty smart and you all have a unique perspective that you add to the site and the book.

The book seems more genuine because you are writing about what you have experienced, not just about how it should be. I like that. And thanks for my autographed copy! It made my day.

"If you can grow on your own, even with God’s help, then you have something to boast about before others. But if we need each other to grow then our boasting is turned into humility. This is how community exposes our inadequacies and magnifies the power of the gospel as our only hope for personal and cultural transformation." (from ch. 1)
