I am taking two classes with Dr. John Hannah (DTS) this summer in Colorado: Hebrews and Church History. That's not the interesting part. The interesting part is all the stuff Dr. Hannah says "off the record." This is what I will be blogging for the next two weeks ... Hannahisms.
"People overstudy and under meditate."
"As a kid, I studied this book [the Bible] for it's content. Now I
study it for its beauty. There is a beauty and symmetry that you will
not find by asking simply, 'What does this passage say?' You have to
meditate on the book as a whole."
"When I go to church I don't go to be entertained. I really don't care
about the game being played around me. I go to look back on ancient
texts, to find comfort in the Savior."
"Every system has problems. You do what you gotta do and hope you die before someone figures out that your system doesn't work."
"How can God speak to you if you fill all your space with your own thoughts?"
"The private us is less than the public us."
"God is not impressed with what we do. He is very much impressed with
the qualities of His character that are displayed in my life ... He
loves to behold Himself."
"I asked a 98 year old man once, 'What is the best thing about being 98 years old?' He said, 'No peer pressure."
That's just from today ... more tommorrow.
My personal favorite from years ago:
"Do not seek to become famous for they will make a bronze statue of you and the birds will poop on your face."
